Iztapalapa Regenera “Acciones para la conservación en Biodiversidad”
Ciudad de México, Nuevo León, Mexico
Certified through 2025
CEMEX Iztapalapa manages 66 square meters of landscaped area at its facilities in Nueva Leon, Mexico. Following a request from the community for more green spaces, the CEMEX team developed two pollinator gardens in 2021 in areas that were previously concrete or monoculture. To establish biodiverse, year-round gardens, the team planted 20 species of vegetation of value to pollinators, over 90% of which are native. Monitoring indicates the presence of 135 species of insects and arachnids across in 14 orders. The team collaborates with partners such as CONABIO, CONAFOR, Semarnat, and local schools and universities.
Practices and Impacts
- The garden provides an educational space that offers secondary school students and the wider community opportunities for observation, hands-on learning and raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity and conservation. CEMEX's PRAC program also engages high school students at CETIS 153 Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in internships, social service and research projects, encouraging them to maintain their commitment to environmental protection from a professional perspective.
