Titan America is a heavy building materials company located in Wilmington, North Carolina, along the Cape Fear River. The site includes two brand-new species projects that began in 2023, both focusing on native species.
Practices and Impacts
- The team is working to establish shelter, promote population growth and maintain that growth for wood ducks. Two duck boxes were installed near the pond on-site due to its availability of food sources and its location near the Cape Fear River, which helps with avian traffic. Reeds surrounding the pond were cleared and are maintained to keep visibility of the boxes. There were sightings of adult wood ducks, although no eggs were found.
- The site's turtle project aims to provide habitat to promote breeding, nesting, hunting and roosting for the yellow-bellied slider. A 5x5 turtle basking platform was installed from Floating Islands West LLC. Plants were added, including pickerelweed, arrowhead and alligator weed. The amount of activity on the platform increased as the year progressed.
