About the Program
Koch Industries Headquarters is located in Wichita, Kansas, and the company is committed to responsible resource stewardship. At the headquarters, 120 acres of land is actively managed to provide habitat for pollinators and waterfowl with the hope of increasing the populations of these native species. Habitats on-site include landscaped flower beds, grasslands and ponds, and the campus is adjacent to the Great Plains Nature Center.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team has converted stormwater runoff ponds into suitable wood duck habitat. In 2019, the team constructed four nest boxes which were placed in ponds to provide shelter and breeding locations. The boxes were placed close to habitat that provides areas for foraging and access to water.
  • The team monitors the nest boxes on a weekly basis, looking signs of use and eggs or ducklings, as well as any waterfowl sightings.
  • The team created five pollinator plots to increase habitat for native pollinator species, including the monarch butterfly. Plots were seeded with a native pollinator seed mix, and insect hotels were also constructed in these areas.
  • Plants are monitored each summer, and the team manages invasive species as needed.
