SGMW TDC
Liuzhou, Guangxi, China
Certified Silver through 2024
The SGMW project is a General Motors-owned, 211-acre research and development center within the city of Liuzhou, China. Built in 2014-2016, the center contains both administrative and research and development facilities as well as a test track for evaluating the performance of new vehicles.
Practices and Impacts
- Within the test track, approximately 53 acres have been planted in native grasses and shrubs in an attempt to provide cover and habitat for grassland species in the city. Plants are monitored annually and mowed as needed.
- A pollinator garden was planted around the office buildings of the facility. Flowering trees, shrubs and flowers were planted to provide habitat and forage for local bees and butterflies. Both the plants and pollinators are monitored at least annually and plants are replaced as needed.
- Local birds are also a focus of landscaping efforts. Fruit trees, roosting sites and bird houses are also incorporated into the conservation effort. Birds are monitored on a regular basis, and the presence of various species is recorded.
- An orchard has also been planted to provide habitat and food sources for local wildlife. Trees are managed in a landscaped garden context and monitored annually for health and survival.
