About the Program
The FCA US Warren Stamping Plant is a Chrysler automobile factory in Warren, Michigan, about 6sixmiles west of Lake St. Clair and 10 miles north of Detroit. The factory was completed in 1948 and began production in 1949. A 174-square-foot pollinator garden targeting bumble bees and monarch butterflies was developed in 2017 in a location where only soil, sporadic weeds and mulch had existed before. The conservation objective is to support biodiversity by incorporating native plant species that serve as food and shelter for monarch butterflies, bumble bees and beetles. The team aims to introduce these species and maintain them through monitoring, with plans to explore long-term expansion

Practices and Impacts
- The pollinator garden contains a variety of plants with different blooming times, which were added to address different species’ needs. These plants serve as nectar and pollen sources, larval host plants and shelter.
- In addition, rock piles placed in the garden area serve as basking areas and shelter for beetles. Water is added to shallow, potted fixtures to provide a drinking source and to support reproduction.
- The project team continues to observe many bumble bees utilizing the pollinator area, though few monarch caterpillars have been observed compared to previous years.
