About the Program
ExxonMobil's East Providence Terminal in Rhode Island includes 850 acres of wildlands located in an otherwise urban area. Since 2017, the team has maintained a grassland ecosystem as pollinator habitat by adding pollinator-friendly plants and removing invasive species. The team focuses on identifying types and counts of different pollinators in the representative habitat area to support the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) pollinator working group data collection objectives and University of Rhode Island research project on bumblebees.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team has planted a pollinator garden near the bike path, which includes signs educating the local community about pollinators. The signs contain information on the importance of pollinators and their local habitat needs, along with a QR code that links to a survey where participants can share what they have learned and give feedback on the habitat project.
