Bayer
Remington Pollinator Project
Remington, Indiana, United States
Certified through 2025
The Bayer Remington Pollinator Project is located at the company's crop science facility in Jasper, Indiana. In 2015, the team planted a one-acre wildflower plot and later over-seeded the area to increase the prevalence of milkweed. Besides focusing on habitat for monarch butterflies, the team partners with a local school district to educate students about the monarch life cycle.
Practices and Impacts
- The team at Bayer maintains a pollinator habitat on-site for the benefit of monarch butterflies and other native pollinator species. The project was initiated in 2015 with the planting of milkweed and a variety of native nectar- and pollen-producing plants.
- During each growing season, the team weeds the area of invasive species like field thistle and logs observations of changes in the habitat. Monitoring is conducted about every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. Milkweed, along with yellow, purple and pale purple coneflower, now all have a very strong presence in the garden area. The team has also noted several adult monarchs, at least one egg and a caterpillar.
- Recently, a bee box was added to the garden to attract native bee species.
