About the Program
Bayer’s Farmer City Pollinator Habitat is an agricultural seed corn production facility located in central Farmer City, Illinois. The site actively manages 4.8 acres of land for wildlife conservation by incorporating best practice grassland conservation techniques such as annual mowing and herbicide application to control vegetative cover and invasive species. Additionally, the team plants mostly native species to support local pollinators and wildlife while using the grassland habitat to inform conservation education and engagement on site and in the community.

Practices and Impacts
  • Over four acres of grassland habitat are actively managed for wildlife. Employees enhance the grassland ecosystem by planting mostly native plant species to benefit local pollinators, and they use grassland conservation techniques such as chemical treatment and annual mowing. There has been a decline in the number of invasive plants on-site since the inception of the project.
  • Team members provide safe breeding habitat for local pollinators, such as monarch butterflies, to increase pollinator population and further enhance the habitat.
