Ramos Arizpe Complex

About the Program
The Laguna Roberto Camp Wild Life Habitat lies in the northern section of the General Motors Ramos Arizpe Complex. The complex is located in the southern part of the city of Ramos Arizpe in the Mexican state of Coahuila. Laguna Roberto Camp is an artificial lagoon made with reclaimed wastewater, bounded by open wooden and metal barriers as well as paved paths, including a path that leads to a small, landscaped island near the center of the lagoon. The lagoon and the area immediately surrounding it are managed with the primary intent of benefitting migratory bird species that visit the site annually, as well as to generally promote habitat availability for wildlife.

Practices and Impacts

• Monitoring is carried out weekly and monthly primarily by partners at three different companies: Global FM, Lyrba and Haas. The teams track which avian and other species are using the habitat, as well as count the avian offspring during breeding season. Monitoring outings are also used to identify areas that need attention or other relevant opportunities for improvement. Water quality parameters are measured regularly to ensure they meet legally required standards.
• General maintenance is carried out in the vegetated areas, including irrigation, pruning and mowing to maintain plant health, with the intention to ensure food availability for wildlife. Additionally, general maintenance is done on the equipment associated with the lagoon, such as its pump and aeration systems, which in turn results in high water quality. 
• The team maintains and resupplies an assortment of bird feeders and nest boxes in order to ensure a steady supply of food and shelter for the bird species that use the lagoon's habitat.
