About the Program
CEMEX's Miami Cement Plant SCL Quarry is located at the western edge of the city of Miami, Florida. Here, the team manages a landscaped pollinator garden for the benefit of monarch butterflies, and more recently has contributed to local urban reforestation/education projects.

Practices and Impacts
  • Since 2012, the team at CEMEX has maintained a 760-square-foot pollinator garden landscaped with native plants. Annual milkweed plants are replanted in the spring, the garden is regularly weeded and plant and pollinator species observed in the garden are are logged monthly. In 2023, an additional 200 square feet were added, and pollinator-friendly and drought-resistant plants added.
  • In 2023, CEMEX partnered with Miami-Dade County's Million Trees Miami initiative to achieve a 30% tree canopy cover for Miami-Dade County. The project focused on planting native trees and flowering plants and was used as an educational opportunity for CEMEX staff and as a way of achieving the company's overall restoration goals.
