The Anderson Landfill (ALI) located in the Central Valley Geologic Province of California and southwestern part of the Redding groundwater basin aims to provide habitat for a variety of local wildlife with an emphasis on western bluebirds. With 1,000 acres of grassland habitat available on-site, ALI encourages the use of bluebird nesting boxes for this native species.
Practices and Impacts
- Nine bluebird boxes were installed in 2011 and have been monitored monthly and sometimes weekly for use.
- Boxes are maintained and replaced if damaged to encourage occupancy
