About the Program
The Exelon/PECO Energy team has managed the 23-acre Manor Road right of way (ROW) at its facility located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania since 2012. The project area is a native grassland community with intermixed low lying, native shrubs that lies adjacent to a 325-conservation easement including riparian forest, upland deciduous forest, shrublands and steep slope embankments. PECO works with contractors to plant native pollinator plants and control invasive species. The team also maintains over 20 bird nesting structures throughout the site.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team collects seasonal quantitative and qualitative data of vegetation and wildlife twice per year. Monitoring includes an evaluation of the general composition of the vegetative community, individual species observations and invasive species and informs the need to develop new management strategies.
  • The ROW contains a diverse assemblage of native wildflowers beneficial to pollinators including black-eyed Susan, oxeye sunflower, butterfly milkweed, tall white beardtongue, wild bergamot and common milkweed.
  • After documenting the continued presence of native wildflowers within the project area, the team installed four nesting structure stations for native solitary bees and released 400 mason bees in the spring of 2021.
