About the Program
Valley Landfill is located in Irwin, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. The main habitat managed is a three-acre wetland habitat, and within this area is a small 0.01-acre pollinator garden. The conservation objective includes supporting pollinators by managing habitat for native plants.  The project also includes managing the area for multiple invasive species. 

Practices and Impacts
  • The project team actively manages two invasive species, Japanese knotweed and phragmites (common reed) with chemical and mechanical control. They also monitor invasive species removal annually.
