Chemours DeLisle Plant

About the Program
Chemours DeLisle Plant is located in Pass Christian in southern Mississippi. The site is on St. Louis Bay, connecting to the Gulf of Mexico. Chemours DeLisle Plant is the world's largest producer or titanium dioxide. At this site, Chemours carries out four avian projects for various bird species.

Practices and Impacts

• The eagle/osprey project includes a nesting area for bald eagles. The project primarily includes monitoring the nest and focuses on breeding and use of nesting specifically with babies. Since 2019, the team has had one bald eagle nesting pair annually.
• The team currently monitors 18 eastern bluebird nest boxes on-site and 16 nest boxes at employees' homes. In 2021, the team recorded 29 fledglings and 21 fledglings in 2022.
• The DeLisle Plant is located close to a globally important bird area for least terns, so team members monitor the use of the nearby habitat by this species. They estimate that there are approximately 15-20 breeding pairs each year.
• The final avian project focuses on providing breeding and nesting area for the purple martin. This habitat need has been addressed through a condo structure. In 2021, two new nest boxes were added. The team consistently observes purple martins using the nest boxes during the breeding season.
