Crossroads Landfill

The Crossroads Landfill is located in south central Maine in the town of Norridgewock just south of the Kennebec River. This landfill is a waste management facility that hosts a variety of wildlife-related projects, from grasslands to forests to wetlands. With help from local Boy Scouts and the USDA, this site also supports several nest box projects for wood ducks and eastern bluebirds while also controlling for invasive plants and birds like the European starling
Practices and Impacts
- The project team recently expanded their wetland management area to a total of 309 acres. This wetland area is healthy and supporting a variety of unique and sensitive species such as amphibians. It also contains numerous vernal pool areas.
- A bat project was recently developed in 2022 that included a review of potential bat roosting locations already available as well as constructing multiple bat houses to support the bat population to provide a variety of roosting options.
