About the Program
The Chaffee Landfill is a WM facility located in western New York just 35 miles southeast of Buffalo. This waste and recycling facility consists of roughly 500 acres where a portion is set aside as the Chaffee Wildlife Preserve. The preserve consists of a variety of habitats including remediation ponds, fields, shrubby areas and forests. The goal of this preserve is to attract an array of native plant and wildlife species to increase biodiversity in the surrounding area.

Practices and Impacts
- The preserve is monitored four times a year through observational hikes throughout the site. Plant and wildlife visual and auditory observations are noted, and many of the same species are seen year after year.
