WM's High Acres Landfill and Recycling Center site in New York includes more than 50 acres of mixed wetlands, which also host a number of bird conservation and educational programs connected to the wetland habitat. Practices and Impacts
- The team monitors and maintains 28 bird boxes and contributes data to the global eBird database to monitor and better understand native bird populations.
- More than 50 acres of wetlands are actively management and monitored, including monitoring and removing invasive species and planting native wetland species such as elderberry, dogwoods, silky willow and buttonbush.
- Students from the Rochester Institute of Technology are actively involved with monitoring and managing the site's wetland habitats, contributing to multiple graduate theses and other academic projects.
