The Bayer Luling site is located in Louisiana near the Mississippi River a few miles from Lake Pontchartrain. The wildlife team has worked to enhance the wetlands on-site with native plant species to add diversity and provide habitat for a variety of wildlife in addition to being a travel connector between other regional wetlands.
Practices and Impacts
- The wetland areas consist of 91.68 acres and include canals that direct water towards the Mississippi River. The wildlife team has identified 86 bird species, 15 mammal species and 14 reptile and amphibian species using the wetland conservation area.
- An additional 13.5 acres of wetland is being restored as a result of Hurricane Ida impacts. Restoration efforts involve both passive and active methods.
- Plant and animal surveys are conducted annually, and water quality sampling is completed quarterly.
