Certified Silver through 2025
The FMC Coporation’s Stine Research Center is located in Newark, Delaware, on approximately 500 acres. The site has large areas of open grassland, both mowed and un-mowed, as well as wetland areas that provide excellent habitat for a variety bird and amphibian species. Songbird nest boxes are distributed around the facility, with the majority being on the Delaware side of the property. The goal of all the projects is to improve the environment, allowing native species to flourish, since lack of nesting habitat in the area is a limiting factor for bird species. Providing nest boxes for cavity nesting songbirds will give these native birds a safe haven in which to raise their young until they have fledged from the nest. The site also has over 40 acres of wetlands, mostly in a somewhat protected woods near the perimeter of the property and adjacent to the Mason-Dixon trail. The wood duck project objective is part of the Adopt-A-Wetland initiative that seeks to protect and maintain wetlands and provide habitat for nesting wood ducks. Monitoring information collected is used by site management as a display of DuPont's commitment to environmental stewardship through managing their lands to enhance habitats for wildlife.
Practices and Impacts
- The team maintains and monitors six wood duck nest boxes around the site. The boxes are located in various wetland areas where wood ducks have been spotted or are known to be located. Three of the nest boxes are located relatively close in an area that is covered under the Delaware Adopt-A-Wetland program.
- A landscaped garden on-site continues to attract pollinators.
